Trooli hits ultrafast broadband milestone

Kent telecoms provider Trooli has now installed more than 200km of its multi-million pound ultrafast broadband network across rural parts of the county.

The milestone achievement means in excess of 26,000 homes and businesses have been passed in towns and villages connected to the full fibre network, unlocking internet speeds many times faster than previously available. The company’s plans see it passing more than 45,000 premises by the end of 2020, 150,000 by the middle of 2022, and 500,000 in 2025.

The service offered by Kings Hill-based Trooli delivers ultrafast broadband – known as FTTP – direct into a customer’s premises with guaranteed download speeds of between 300Mbps and 900Mbps. By contrast, average UK download speeds are 54.2Mbps, with rural speeds typically much slower.

Andy Conibere, Chief Executive Officer for Trooli, said: “We are 100% focused on delivering our ultrafast broadband service to rural communities in Kent and ensuring they enjoy the benefits of being able to access greatly enhanced internet speeds.

“Thanks to the hard work of everyone here at Trooli, we are continuing to meet our business plan targets: our engineers are building and commissioning our network on schedule; we have grown to nearly 90 people, with 17 new staff joining in the last two months alone; and we are signing up new customers every day.

“Although the coronavirus crisis has thrown up challenges, the 21^st century infrastructure we are installing is considered essential for the well-being of the economy, which has allowed our work to continue uninterrupted. And with so many people now spending more time at home we have seen an increase in customer demand as businesses and residents realise the huge advantages offered by a great broadband service.”

Trooli, which was launched 18 months ago, is backed by €30m from the Connecting Europe Broadband Fund (CEBF) and a recent further £5m from NatWest. It is steadily building its network across Kent and is currently accessible in Kings Hill, West Malling, Leybourne Chase, West Peckham, Paddock Wood, Coxheath, Wateringbury, Nestlestead, Teston, East Peckham, Longfield, New Barn, Istead Rise, Loose, Boughton Monchelsea, Pembury, Sissinghurst, Cranbrook, Meopham, Sole Street and Hawkinge. Work has also begun on connecting Headcorn, Staplehurst, Marden, New Romney, Dymchurch, Lydd and Greatstone.
